fishing rod pvp was meta back in 2012 when they applied knockback instead of hooking someone, you can negate the effect if you pearl one block higher then your opponent and then crouch, because you cant be pulled of an edge one block lower then you are at the moment of crouching. It's pointless against an opponent that knows how to act against it, but since the newer generation of minecraft players just copies shit from the internet instead of working out their own stuff its becoming effective again.
